6 Cellulite Busting Tips & Tricks
By Summer Fisher
Cellulite. The word alone conjours up horrifying images of
the dreaded orange-peel effect that is the bane of so many
women's existences. There is nothing on this earth as
guaranteed to reduce confidence and the all-round glamour of
any outfit like cellulite. Three little syllables, but one big
problem.
Unfortunately, there is nothing any woman can do to ensure
she doesn't get cellulite. It isn't selective, targeting any
woman, of any age, of any body shape, of any level of physical
fitness. While this lack of discrimination is somewhat
encouraging - even supermodels get cellulite! - it still
doesn't stop the fact that if any woman has cellulite, she
doesn't want it anymore.
Is there any way to stop it? Well, there's a few tried and
tested methods which we'll explore now. Please bear in mind
that the effectiveness of these treatments may vary, but when
it comes to cellulite, anything is worth a shot, right?
1. Dry Skin Brushing
Cellulite is caused by toxins and fatty underneath the skin
not dissipating and forming in the fat cells, which creates the
dimpled effect on the epidermis. Dry skin brushing is seen as a
way of trying to persuade those toxins to be re-absorbed into
the body and thus reduce the appearance of cellulite, and is
known to be relatively effective if done regularly - twice a
day is recommended. There are many specialist types of 'brush'
available to buy, but even a simple bathroom loofah will do the
job. On dry skin, brush firmly in sweeping strokes towards the
feet for at least five minutes per session. It may take a
couple of weeks for any results to be obvious, and these will
fade if you desist in brushing, but nevertheless when done
right, dry skin brushing can be extremely effective.
2. Dietary Changes
Although weight is not a contributing factor to cellulite
forming on the body, sometimes what you eat can be. As I
mentioned, cellulite is caused by toxins and fatty deposits in
the body coagulating, and some foods can increase the risk of
this. Foods that can help prevent cellulite and reduce the
effect of any you already have are rich in lecithin, essential
fatty acids and antioxidants. These include items like eggs,
organ meats, fresh dark green leafy vegetables, tomatoes,
berries and small amounts of dark chocolate. As an added bonus,
you could take supplements containing Omega oils 3-6-9. As with
anything the results of eating these foods are subjective, but
they're good for the body anyway, it's surely worth a try.
3. Quit Smoking / Lower Alcohol Intake
If you're a smoker, your chances of unsightly cellulite are
vastly increased. By stopping smoking all together, some women
have reported a 50% improvement on the appearance of their
cellulite in six months. The same goes if you're a heavy
drinker
- like smoking, it clogs the system and makes the body have to
focus it's energies elsewhere instead of on dissipating fatty
deposits. Quit smoking and drink only small amounts irregularly
and you should see an improvement in time.
4. Change Your Underwear
And I don't just mean on a daily basis! Some scientific
studies claim that wearing tight fitting knickers with elastic
stretched tight across the bottom of the buttocks can increase
the risk of cellulite due to the reduction in blood flow, no
matter how minimal. Therefore, at night try wearing a thong,
shorts or going naked completely to prevent the build up of
cellulite in this area. However, this is only preventative -
though it will help stop cellulite developing in these areas,
if you already have it, this will have only a minimal
impact.
5. Change Position
Believe it or not, sitting or standing in the same position
can actually help cellulite to form. The answer to this is
simply - keep moving. If you're sitting at a desk all day, try
and take a short walk (even just around your office) every hour
or so to keep blood flowing. This has other health benefits as
well. By keeping moving, you encourage blood to circulate and
help prevent cellulite from forming or getting worse.
6. Get Tanned
Despite everything, no matter what you do cellulite is
sometimes going to form. Although you can reduce the severity
of it using the methods above, there is no permanent cure for
cellulite, and perhaps the best thing to do is to look for
methods of concealment. Without a doubt, the best option in
this category is simple - get a tan. It doesn't matter if you
tan from the sun or from a bottle, a darker skin colour helps
stop the dimpled appearance of cellulite being so obvious, as
it stops shadows being cast so clearly into the dimples
themselves. The effects of a tan on the appearance of cellulite
is startling, so hit a lounger or reach for your favourite type
of fake tan as soon as possible.
In conclusion, there are things you can do to help prevent,
reduce and disguise cellulite, but it is a permanent condition.
No matter what a cosmetic surgeon, cream or so-called therapist
tries to tell you, there is not at present any way of
completely ridding yourself of cellulite for evermore. Small
changes to your lifestyle is what is going to work best, so
save yourself a huge bill by avoiding the creams and lotions
and go get a tan instead!
